There are some songs I hear and I just think, “Yep, this applies to my life right now.” Love, distance, and uncertainty are common themes in music, but I’ve compiled a few for your enjoyment that I think make especially good Military Spouse theme songs. So sit back, relax, and enjoy some super relatable songs.
Tightrope – The Greatest Showman
Y’all know I love musicals, so I couldn’t get through this list without one or two musical songs. The first time I watched this movie I was like “yeah, cool, OK song.” But then after I listened to the soundtrack again, I was like “YES, THIS IS MY LIFE.” I always relate to musicals better the second time around, and this one was no exception to the rule. The whole theme of life uncertainty mixed with a lot of love makes it the perfect theme song for the military spouse.
Leaving on a Jet Plane/Goodbye Again – John Denver
The iconic long distance relationship song…followed up by John Denver’s less iconic long distance song is the perfect duo for military relationships. You’d be hard pressed to find a more beautifully accurate representation of military life.
I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) – The Proclaimers
If there’s anything military life has taught me, it’s that 500 miles is nothing. 1000 is something. But it’s not the furthest apart we’ve been. But the gist of the song is still sweet, so the technicalities don’t matter so much.
That Would be Enough – Hamilton
Maybe a little bit dramatic, but technically Eliza was a military spouse whose husband had been away at war when she sang this song. So just go with me. Plus I had to include another musical song on this list because obvs, it’s my list.
The Girl – City and Colour
I really love this song, and you should listen to it.
5 Years Time – Noah And The Whale
Once again, going with the theme of uncertainty – but with an optimistic spin. “In 5 years time we could be walking around a zoo.” It’s possible. Who knows? That sounds like fun.
I’d Rather be with You – Joshua Radin
The name of the song says it all. Sometimes you just want to be together.
Collapsible Lung – Relient K
This is one of my favorite songs. It’s cute. That’s really all I have to say about it.
I Won’t Give Up – Lennon & Maisy (or Jason Mraz, if you prefer.)
Who doesn’t love little girls singing songs about difficult relationships? Makes perfect sense. But in all seriousness, I really love their harmonies. And the song is the perfect fit for military relationships because there will always be struggles and difficult times – I mean all relationships have this. But the military life does put external pressure on a relationship.
Would You Go With Me – Josh Turner
This is a classic love song in my book. And it fits the military life because who knows where we’ll end up going in life. But we’re in it together, and that’s all we need to know.
